I'm a Christian single mom with an 19-1/2 year old daughter and I own a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. Our homestay is located in Northridge, California..... a community in the San Fernando Valley, which is in the northwest part of the City of Los Angeles. Our neighborhood is very quiet because we live on a street with no through traffic, meaning that the traffic we see belongs to residents/neighbors because our street doesn't continue past the end of our block.
The City of Los Angeles is located in the County of Los Angeles. The City is a very large city, consisting of 88 incorporated and unincorporated communities (like Northridge). The City of Los Angeles is 469.3 square miles (1,215.5 square kilometers) and the County of Los Angeles is 4,752 square miles (12,308 square kilometers), with approximately 10 million people.
The following link will help you find some facts and statistics about the City of Los Angeles. http://www.laalmanac.com/default.htm
If you decide not to rent a car while you are here, there's plenty of public transportation available. Less than 1/2 mile or a 10 minute walk from our home is the Metro/Amtrak train station. Approx. 1/4 mile in the westerly direction is a bus stop and approx. 1/4 mile in the southerly direction is another bus stop.
Only 1.3 miles away you will find the Northridge Fashion Center (www.northridgefashioncenter.com) with over 170 fine stores including Macy's, JCPenney, Sears, the Apple Store, Old Navy, Hot Topic, Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret, Forever 21, Baby Gap, The Children's Place; and restaurants such as Macaroni Grill, Wood Ranch BBQ, California Pizza Kitchen. If you have time, see the latest hit movie at the Pacific Theatre's 10-screen stadium seating theater. http://www.movietickets.com/house_detail.asp?house_id=5476&exid=PAC
In the short distance between our home and the Northridge Fashion Center you will find many other stores and restaurants, several financial institutions, 2 fitness centers, a dental office (should you need one), a salon for a quick haircut, and if your eye glasses break or go missing, an optometrist. What more could you need?
